Wharton shines against international competition

Charlotte Wharton, a member of the Ragin’ Cajun Water Ski Team, made quite a splash during competition at the Junior World Championships in Australia.

Wharton, a 17-year-old freshman from the United Kingdom, won the gold medal in the girls jump.

The finance major also claimed a bronze medal in the overall competition.

The Junior World Championships took place Feb. 20-24 in Mulwala, Australia.

The International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation, based in Switzerland, sponsored the tournament.

The team’s home lake is Airport Lake in Lafayette. The lake contains a slalom course, jump and jump course.
