University’s Wear Red campaign gets a boost on College Colors Day

Ragin’ Cajuns fans will have extra incentive to display school spirit and pride on Friday, Sept. 1.

They will observe College Colors Day, an annual event for many colleges and universities across the nation. This year’s theme is “United We Fan.”

The celebration boosts enthusiasm just before the start of football season. It also serves as a reminder of the University's Wear Red campaign.

The campaign encourages students, faculty and staff members, and University supporters to dress in vermilion and white apparel and Ragin’ Cajuns gear throughout the year.

“The Wear Red tradition was launched more than a decade ago. Fans wear Ragin’ Cajuns gear and colors as often as possible to show their support for the University, its athletics teams, and to connect with other fans,” said Leslie Saloom, UL Lafayette’s assistant director of trademark licensing.

Sporting red on the first day of September will foster more than enthusiasm on campus or in the community. Fans can share photos on social media using #UnitedWeFan and #CollegeColors hashtags for a chance to win gear before College Colors Day.

They can also visit to win prizes such as watches, tailgating games, and apparel. The biggest prize: an all-expenses paid trip to college football’s national championship game, which will be played Jan. 8 in Atlanta.

University supporters will have an opportunity to show their school spirit when football season kicks off at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, at Cajun Field. The Ragin’ Cajuns will square off against the Southeastern Louisiana University Lions.

College Colors Day is sponsored by IMG College Licensing, which represents trademark licensing programs at more than 150 colleges and universities.
