UL Press publications garner awards

Published

Four UL Press titles have earned gold and bronze medals in the Independent Publisher Book Awards.

Gold winners are:

鈥淕enerating Hope鈥 by Geoff Gjertson, which documents the BeauSoleil solar home designed and built by a team from UL Lafayette for the 2009 Solar Decathlon in Washington, D.C.; and

鈥淵ou Don鈥檛 Know Me鈥 by James Nolan, a collection of short stories about New Orleans.

鈥淕enerating Hope鈥 earned the top award in the Architecture category, while 鈥淵ou Don鈥檛 Know Me鈥 was cited in the South 鈥 Best Regional Fiction category.

Bronze winners are:

鈥淭he Irish in New Orleans鈥 by Laura D. Kelley, a history of the Irish in New Orleans illustrated with photographs; and

鈥淭he Public Art of Robert Dafford鈥 by Philip Gould, a vivid depiction of the renowned artist鈥檚 work through text and photography.

Kelley鈥檚 book was judged in in the South 鈥 Best Regional Non-Fiction category; Gould鈥檚 was in the coffee table books category.

The IPPY Awards, launched in 1996, are intended to increase recognition to deserving, but often unsung, titles produced by independent authors and publishers. Established as the first awards program open exclusively to independents, over 3,000 IPPYs have been awarded to authors and publishers around the world.
