Thirteen ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ graduating seniors were recently cited for each performing at least 200 hours of community service in Acadiana during their college careers.
Their combined University-based service totaled 7,900 hours, which represents an estimated economic impact of $173,000, according to Dr. David Yarborough, the University's dean of Community Service.
Each student received the 2014 Excellence in Service Award. They are:
- Kyla Davis, psychology;
- Eric Francis, business informatics;
- Kolby Handy, biology;
- William Herrington, English;
- Katherine Hill, biology;
- Adorn M. Nelson, health promotion and wellness;
- Jade Peart, public relations;
- Brianna Schumann, health promotion and wellness;
- Jeanne Theriot, chemistry;
- Trinity Thigpen, art education;
- Dianne Trim, public relations;
- Kristie Williams, arts and humanities; and
- Samantha Williams, accounting.
To be eligible for the Excellence in Service Award, a graduating senior must be a member or former member of a UL Lafayette campus-based organization that participates in documented community service activities.
The 13 students will graduate during Commencement ceremonies Friday.
