As part of the ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ’s School of Music's performance competition series, the Friends of Music Guitar Competition will hold its annual event on Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bayou Bijou.
This event is free and open to the public. The anticipated annual competition is in its 13th year and generates excitement for the participants and presents high-level performances for the audience members.
The Guitar Department is one of the largest instrumental studios in the School of Music offering both classical and jazz study.
" This competition serves to reward outstanding students for their hard work as well as give them a sense of what a national competition is like," said Dr. Jeffrey George, the coordinator of Guitar Studies. "Getting recognition in a performance competition is one of the primary ways that a guitarist can begin their career and add to his or her resume accomplishments.
"Some international competitions offer prize money that goes into five figures and often they will subsidize a monetary prize with instruments, recordings or tours," he added.
The Friends of Music competition is co-sponsored by Lafayette Music Co., Inc.
